The fall months are upon us and it’s that time of year again when paint brands announce their Color of the Year: standout shades that will dictate color trends for the coming year.
While only a few paint brands have revealed their 2025 color of the year so far and we eagerly await the rest of the colors, we turn to the designers to find out their predictions.
Below we’ve rounded up eight colors that designers predict will emerge in the coming weeks as more color trends for 2025 are officially announced. If you want to get inspired by the latest trending colors, read on.
Interior designers’ predictions for the color of the year 2025
While we are still waiting for many color trends from the leading paint brands, the color blue dominates so far. Valspar’s color of the year is Encorea dark navy blue; and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams 2025 Color of the Year was named Quieta cool blue-green.
Whether the blue trend will continue is still unclear, but the designers’ predictions below venture into many exciting shades. From terracotta to sage green, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see upcoming color trends like the shades below emerge.
1. Dusty shades

“I expect there will be more dusty tones in the mix,” says Chicago-based interior designer Kelsey Haywood Haywoodmade interior design.
Since color intensity will most likely continue to be a major trend in interior design in 2025, Kelsey points out that these soft and vibrant shades are perfect for this style of decorating with color.
“It’s a practical way to infuse a room with color without making it too saturated. The drawing room in our historic Evanston project is a perfect example. Brassica by Farrow & Ball is really captivating.”
2. Grey-green

Second, interior designer Margarita Bravo predicts that more muted grey-green tones will become more prominent in the coming months.
“We’re predicting a rich, muted green like Acacia Haze SW 9132 by Sherwin Williams. The shade is expected to gain traction due to its association with wellness, nature and tranquility, reflecting the growing desire for spaces and environments that promote a sense of calm.”
“As people increasingly seek to create calm, restful spaces at home, muted green conveys a sense of balance and connection to nature without being overwhelming. This color also combines well with different materials and textures, making it versatile for both modern and traditional interior styles.”
3. Warm yellow gold

Camila Gonzales, Senior Designer at Natural instincts suggests warm yellow gold tones as a highlight for the year 2025.
“Just as butter yellow has influenced the fashion industry, I think we’ll see more yellow in interiors, like Benjamin Moore’s Summerdale Gold,” says Camila. “The shade is a honey gold with green undertones and works well in a laundry room, guest bathroom, or even the kitchen.”
Part of Benjamin Moore’s recently released fall lookbook, Summerdale Gold offers homeowners the calming effect of decorating in neutral colors, but with more depth and interest.
4. Bright yellow

Designers also predict that bolder and brighter shades of yellow will take center stage in 2025.
“Yellow is a color that is often associated with warmth, positivity and creativity,” says interior designer Hanna Li from Hanna Li Interiors. “In 2025, this vibrant hue will become even more prominent, emerging as a symbol of hope and renewal in the current economic climate. Yellow, in its many shades from soft pastels to bold neons, will be embraced for its ability to lift spirits.”
“It’s a perfect accent for a mid-century wood cabin, a trend that’s making a strong comeback, or as a striking choice for modern and traditional kitchen cabinets that have been out of style lately, where it can make a refreshing impression.”
5. Smoke blue

It’s no surprise to see shades of blue in the mix, as shades of blue have featured heavily in the already announced Color of the Year. Interior designer Valerie Helgeson, lead designer and founder of Design directionspredicts Smokey Blues as a highlight for the coming year.
“In general, blue is a calming color that draws on hues from nature, but finding the right shade is absolutely crucial,” says Valerie. “Some blues can turn purple, making a room look too bright and garish. Smoky blue can be both feminine and masculine, and is almost neutral because you can bring in so many other colors and it works well with them.”
6. Sage green

Sage green is another popular color that has a similarly calming effect. Interior designer Julia Lauve of WORKSHOP | Studio predicts that sage green colors will continue to be popular in the new year.
“It’s the most calming shade of green that can actually give a soothing tone to a room,” Julia tells us. “Sage represents both nature and wellness, so it’s ideal for retreat spaces: bathrooms, bedrooms, and home gyms. It’s also great for color washing: you can use it on walls, window treatments, and accessories to create an inviting, saturated, and fresh feel that pastels can never achieve.”
7. Burgund

Designer Rosanna Bassford, founder and director of Memmo Interior Design predicts that burgundy will be a prominent color for 2025.
“We’ve had bright, white rooms for so many years that we’re responding with a desire for warmer, more inviting spaces,” Rosanna explains. “Rich burgundy will be big in 2025. This isn’t a primary red, but a deeper, wine-colored color that’s warm and rich and works well with black and brass tones. Especially in rooms that don’t have a lot of windows or light – powder rooms, dens, a formal dining room – burgundy can instantly create a warm and enveloping feeling.”
8. Terracotta

Finally, designers predict that earthy terracotta will be one of the color trends of the coming year. “This shade combines rich burnt orange with clay tones, creating an eclectic and inviting atmosphere,” says designer Swati Goorha of Swati Goorha Designs.
“The trend responds to the growing desire for natural, grounded spaces as people seek comfort and a connection to nature in their homes,” adds Swati. “Its warmth and versatility means it can be easily combined with neutral and bright colors, enhancing the coziness of any room.”
Jacqueline Norrise, founder of ADL Interiors, also predicts terracotta shades for the coming year: “Dark terracotta tones will be in the foreground in 2025. The shade focuses on natural materials, well-being and enduring design, and the warmth and adaptability of terracotta suits homes with a grounded, sophisticated ambience.”
As paint manufacturers reveal their 2025 colors in the coming weeks and months, we’ll have a much better idea of which individual hues will dominate. But for now, we believe these designer predictions will undoubtedly be some of the most significant colors of next year.
