GLEN JEAN, WV– Laughter is in the air as children swing, slide and climb on new playground equipment at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. Just steps from spectacular scenery, hiking trails, picnic areas and a visitor center in one of the park’s most popular areas, the new playground in the Grandview area offers a variety of interactive features, climbing access and elements for sensory play.

The playground replaces outdated equipment installed when Grandview was a West Virginia State Park. The fun attractions opened after a dedication and grand opening on August 7. Shortly after the ribbon cutting, 40 youth campers from the local YMCA of Southern West Virginia flocked to the playground and used the new equipment with enthusiasm and energy. The new playground was funded by a $100,000 donation from the BHE GT&S Foundation to the National Park Foundation (NPF), which was matched by a $50,000 donation from the NPF and a $50,000 donation from the Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.

Grandview had over 80,000 visitors last year, including many families and school groups. For more information and tips about the park, visit nps.gov/neri and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
