Trump vs. Harris: New poll for 2024 election shows outlier for former president with 3-point lead, RFK Jr. support could increase lead

A new poll for the 2024 election could be an outlier in the direct comparison between Donald Trump And Kamala Harris Ten weeks before the 2024 presidential election, Trump is in the lead.

What happened: Since Harris became the Democratic Party’s candidate, which was officially confirmed with her nomination at the DNC, she has been ahead in many polls.

However, a poll by the conservative-leaning Rasmussen Institute differs. The latest Rasmussen poll shows Trump ahead. Here is the latest one, with the results of the previous poll in parentheses.

Donald Trump: 49% (49%)

Kamala Harris: 46% (45%)

The poll shows that 2% of voters are still undecided and 2% of voters say they would vote for another candidate. After expanding the poll beyond the head-to-head comparisons, the results were:

Donald Trump: 47%

Kamala Harris: 45%

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 4%

The poll was conducted between August 15 and 21, before the end of the Democratic National Convention and before Kennedy suspended his campaign – two major political events this week.

Did you know?

Why it is important: The poll itself is an outlier, as Harris has an average lead of 2% in national head-to-head polls, according to a report from RealClearPolling.

Even the Rasmussen poll, which puts Trump ahead by three percentage points, is a significant improvement for the Democratic Party over the 10-point lead Trump had before Joe Biden in June, before Biden dropped out of the race.

Although Kennedy supported Trump, not all of his supporters will defect to the Republicans.

With Kennedy Jr.’s support, Trump could gain two to three percent, increasing his lead in one of the few polls that put him ahead of Harris.

The next national polls from leading polling firms after Kennedy’s withdrawal could be important indicators ahead of the highly anticipated presidential debate on September 10.
