A day after Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the country’s top adviser, his office imposed a ban on the use of his image in advertisements in newspapers and other media. The top adviser’s office issued a corresponding directive on Friday.

“The use of the honorable chief advisor’s image in advertisements or other forms of advertising in newspapers and various media is prohibited,” the directive states. It is important to note that the ban came after several national newspapers published advertisements congratulating Yunus with his image.

This led to widespread criticism on social media. In response to the backlash, the Chief Counsel’s office released a statement explaining that Yunus’ image would not be allowed in such advertisements or promotions.

The first meeting of the transitional government took place

The first meeting of Bangladesh’s new interim government took place on Friday evening, days after the overthrow of the Hasina-led Awami government.

Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Advisor, Posts and Telecommunications, Md Nahid Islam briefed the reporters about the happenings at the meeting. Advisor, Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud was also present at the press conference. The Dhaka Tribune reported.

The new advisers said public policy and economic issues were also discussed at the meeting. Nahid Islam said they joined the advisory board to ensure students’ voices are heard.

Meanwhile, Yunus is also scheduled to go to Rangpur’s Pirganj upazila on August 10 to visit the family of Abu Sayed, who was killed in police firing during the quota protests on July 16. Mohammad Mobashwer Hasan, the deputy commissioner of Rangpur, confirmed the news. The Daily Star reported.

The Bangladeshi chief adviser is expected to arrive in Pirganj by Bangladesh Air Force helicopter and land around 9:30 am.
