Obituary for Sarah Trimbur (1936 – 06.08.2024) – Champion, PA

Sarah “Sally” Griffin Trimbur, 87, born October 24, 1936, passed away peacefully at her home in Champion, PA on August 6, 2024. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Sally was known for her warmth, joy and sharp wit which endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Sally was proud of her Irish heritage, and her vivacious personality, sparkling eyes and infectious laugh were the hallmarks of her character. She had a natural gift for storytelling and an unmatched sense of humor and always had a clever saying or funny story ready that could brighten anyone’s day. Sally was truly the life of any party. Sally was born in the Morrowfield Apartments in Squirrel Hill, PA. She attended Mount Mercy Academy, graduating in 1954, before completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Sally began her career as a teacher but took a break to raise her four children. She later pursued her entrepreneurial spirit and founded The Ample Hamper, a market and deli near Seven Springs Mountain Resort. She operated the business from 1989 until her retirement in 2015. Sally is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas, to whom she was married for 61 years and with whom she shared a remarkable partnership that served as a shining example to all who knew them. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter and countless precious memories, especially with their children and friends. As a mother, Sally was proud and loving, raising her four children, Paul, Tom, Matt and Maggie. She also welcomed her daughters-in-law, Holly and Lauren, and her son-in-law, Mike, as her own. To her seven grandchildren, she was “Nana”. Her family was the center of her world and she was dedicated to their happiness and well-being. She was immensely proud of everyone’s accomplishments. Nana Sally’s home was a place of warmth and love, filled with joyful traditions and wonderful memories. We will greatly miss Sally’s quick wit, gentle nature and deep love for her family. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved, and her home was always a place of comfort, joy and delicious food. Her door was always open and many of her children’s friends considered her a second mother. To countless others, she was not just a good friend, but a friend for life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s memory may be made to St. Jude Family Research Hospital (www.stjude.org). Sally’s legacy of love, laughter and a full life will continue to inspire all who knew her. Arrangements by JOHN A.
