Reading Festival apologizes for shortening Lana Del Rey’s performance

Reading Festival apologized “unreservedly” to Lana Del Rey and her fans for accidentally interrupting her performance.

The 39-year-old Summertime Sadness singer performed many of her hits on the festival’s main stage on Saturday night before producer and DJ Fred Again closed out the day.

However, the US star was unable to complete her performance. Festival-goers shared videos online showing her sitting on the stage and watching the final fireworks display after her performance was cut short.

A statement shared on the festival’s Instagram story on Sunday said: “Due to an error by the production team in Reading, we inadvertently cut Lana Del Rey’s incredible performance short by five minutes. We unreservedly apologise to Lana and her fans.”

Del Rey will perform at the sister event, the Leeds Festival, at the same time on Sunday.

Last summer, the singer had her power cut off during her headlining performance on the Other Stage at Glastonbury after she started her set 30 minutes late.

She was forced to lead her fans in an a cappella rendition of her latest song, “Video Games,” after her microphone was unplugged.

Del Rey formally apologized to the audience, asked fans to help her sing the song, and then went downstairs to meet them.

After arriving late on stage at Worthy Farm, she told the audience, “It takes so long to do my hair,” and added, “If they turn the power off, they turn the power off.”

A few weeks later, it began its British Summer Time (BST) slot in London’s Hyde Park around 17 minutes late, but managed to finish it just before curfew.

During her BST performance, she appeared to reference the Glastonbury incident when she joked at 10:05pm, five minutes before her set was originally scheduled to end: “I think that’s where I got interrupted last time. I’m sorry about that.”

Del Rey did not comment on the incident in Reading.
