I’m so ready for one of comics’ oldest superheroes to FINALLY have his powers back

Summary

  • Freddy Freeman from the Shazam family finally gets new powers after a long journey without them. It was about time!
  • As monster attacks occur in Philly, the kids embark on a road trip to investigate, using Freddy’s new abilities.
  • Freddy Freeman’s return as a superhero is long overdue and despite possible drawbacks, he has proven that he is worthy of being a hero.

A member of the Shazam Family will soon regain his powers, and in my opinion, it’s long overdue. Freddy Freeman has long been one of the world’s mightiest mortal’s biggest cheerleaders, even when he was stripped of his own powers. But now, the hero once known as Captain Marvel Jr. will be soaring through the skies once again.

There has been a lot of chaos in Billy Batson’s foster family over the past few months, and it’s only getting more complicated. In DC Comics’ October solicitations, the publisher revealed important information about an upcoming issue of Shazam!.

Shazam’s family trip! Or at least an escape from Philly, as the kids head out to investigate some crazy monster attacks. Freddy’s new powers should come in handy, but there’s something wrong with him. Will the price of his new abilities be more than he can afford?

As the monsters attack Philadelphia, triggered by a magical leak, the children leave the city to investigate the cause of the disaster. The requested information also reveals that Shazam’s adoptive brother Freddy Freeman gains new powers. However, the synopsis also indicates that Freddy must pay a price for his newfound abilities.

Shazam’s brother will soon be a superhero again

Freddy Freeman wants to be Shazam DC

If you’re a Shazam fan, then you know that Freddy Freeman has a long history with the Big Red Cheese. Back in the day, Freddy went from being a Captain Marvel fanboy to a real hero when he was given magical powers that transformed him into Captain Marvel Jr. He was even the sole champion of the DC Universe for a short time before Flash point Continuity. But while the restructuring disempowered him, Freddy eventually gained his magical powers, as did the rest of Shazam’s familyThis was the case until the Infinite Frontier era, when most of the kids, including Freddy, lost their superpowers.

One thing I like about the current Shazam! The beauty of the book is that Freddy has been thrust into the spotlight by the recent storyline and he actually reflects a little on the loss of his powers. While I liked the extended Shazam family, the only member I hoped would become a hero again was Freddy. He is just as valuable as Billy or Mary and neither of them believes in the superhero lifestyle as much as he does. Although it sounds like there is a catch to Freddy’s new powers, I’m excited to see my favorite member of the Shazam family again.

Even if there is a catch: It’s time for Freddy to get his Shazam powers back

Freddy Freeman - Captain Marvel Jr.

What I like about Freddy is that he often had more going against him than Mary or Billy. Due to his health issues and the loss of his powers, he could have easily turned down the hero life. But Freddy never gives up and always does the right thing, even as a vulnerable person. He has proven countless times that he deserves to be a hero. No matter how he gets them back, Freddy has earned the right to be a superhero. While I have no idea how Freddy gets his powers back, you can bet I’ll be reading it. Shazam! to find out.

#16 will be available from DC Comics on October 2nd.
