Reading & Leeds Fest apologises for shortening Lana Del Rey’s performance

The Reading & Leeds Festival apologised for cutting Lana Del Rey’s performance short on Saturday night.

Del Rey was performing as the penultimate headliner of the Reading leg of the Reading & Leeds Festival when the singer’s microphone was cut off during a fireworks display at the end of her set. According to online reports, she sat for the remaining five minutes watching the fireworks with her fans, but was unable to complete her performance.

“Due to an error by the production team in Reading, we inadvertently cut Lana Del Rey’s incredible performance short by 5 minutes,” the festival wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “We unreservedly apologise to Lana and her fans.”

Del Rey’s performance on Saturday was followed by a set by DJ-producer Fred Again.

Further reports added that the “Normal Fucking Rockwell” singer started her performance 10 to 15 minutes late and that this year’s festival was plagued by bad weather. Others complained about the poor sound quality throughout the festival, with fans saying online that they couldn’t hear the performances because of the noise of the loud techno performances. A review by The Telegraph was: “The queen of nuanced pop deserves better than this travesty.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to the festival and Del Rey for comment. The singer will perform at the Leeds portion of the festival on Sunday.
