Kyle Schwarber and Garrett Stubbs help the Philadelphia Phillies to victory over the Kansas City Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kyle Schwarber had two hits and three RBIs and Garrett Stubbs had a personal-best four hits to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to an 11-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

After Garrett Stubbs opened the third inning with a triple to the right corner, Schwarber hit a double to right center field. Alex Bohm’s hit with two outs brought Schwarber home and gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead.

Schwarber added additional RBIs with a bases-loaded grounder in the fourth inning and a run-scoring single that capped the sixth inning with three runs.

The Phillies scored five runs in the eighth inning, with Bohm’s two-run single and Nick Castellanos’ two-run homer, his 17th of the season, being the highlights.

Philadelphia’s Kolby Allard (2-0), recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Sunday’s game, pitched five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.

Seth Lugo (14-8) of Kansas City allowed six runs on eleven hits, five of which were earned.

The Phillies went 7 of 14 with runners in scoring position.

After hitting a season-high 18 in an 11-2 win on Saturday, the Phillies hit 16 and allowed 45 hits on Sunday while defeating the Royals 26-12 to win two games in the three-game series.

The Royals hit three solo home runs. Bobby Witt Jr. put Kansas City on the scoreboard with a 441-foot home run to center in the third inning, his 26th. Maikel Garcia opened the fifth inning with his seventh home run and MJ Melendez started the sixth with his 16th.

Tyler Gentry made his major league debut for the Royals as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning.

Fielder Garrett Hampson threw a hitless ninth inning for Kansas City.

TRANSACTIONS

The Phillies recalled Allard from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and sent RHP Max Lazar to Lehigh Valley.

TRAINING ROOM

Royals OF Hunter Renfroe was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. OF Tyler Gentry was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.

Phillies: RHP Zack Wheeler (12-6, 2.73 ERA) starts Monday in the opener of their home series against Justin Verlander (3-3, 3.92) of Houston.

Royals LHP Cole Ragans (10-8, 3.31) and RHP Alec Marsh (7-7, 4.41) will face the Guardians in a day/night doubleheader. Host Cleveland has not yet named any starters.
