School is back in session, the sun is setting a little earlier, and you need new movies this August.
Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of the best new movies streaming on Hulu this August. Hulu has a huge selection of new titles on the platform, including classic films, light romantic comedies, and critically acclaimed movies. Watch all of the Alien movies before you see Alien: Romulus, or catch up on Planet of the Apes or Sydney Sweeney’s Immaculate if you missed them in theaters.
Read here which seven best films are on their way to the streamer this month:
Casinos (1995)
Have you been waiting to cross Casino off your must-see list? Tonight is the perfect time to do so. Martin Scorsese’s 1995 crime thriller follows gambling expert and small-time gangster Sam “Ace” Rothstein, played by Robert De Niro. Rothstein runs the casino and hotel operations at the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas, and the film follows the difficulties of his day-to-day life, including his confrontations with the Mafia. De Niro stars alongside Sharon Stone, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role as De Niro’s former hustler wife.
The first time
This early 2000s romantic comedy is the perfect summer classic. Written by Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen stars opposite Katherine Heigl in this one-night stand gone wrong. Heigl plays Allison Scott, who just got her big break as an on-camera reporter for E! News. While celebrating her promotion, she meets stoner Ben Stone, played by Rogen. The two have a wild night that leads to something they never expected or wanted – a baby. Despite their differences, this unlikely duo give each other a chance for the sake of the baby on the way. The all-star cast includes supporting roles from Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann and Jason Segel – to name a few.
Night at the Museum
All four Night at the Museum movies will be streaming on Hulu this month. If you’re in the mood for a nostalgic family comedy, it might be time for a Night at the Museum movie marathon. Ben Stiller plays the night watchman at the National History Museum in New York City. One night, something strange happens after an Egyptian curse brings the exhibits to life. Larry Daley (Stiller) must come up with a plan and gets into many silly pranks along the way.
Zero dark thirty
Zero Dark Thirty is a fictional drama about the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden in the years following the September 11 attacks. Jessica Chastain plays Maya Harris, a fictional CIA analyst tasked with tracking down Bin Laden so the U.S. government can assassinate him. The film received critical acclaim and five Oscar nominations, with Chastain winning the award for Best Actress. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the film also stars Chris Pratt and Joel Edgerton.
Planet of the Apes: Kingdom
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits Hulu after grossing $394.7 million worldwide. The film is a direct sequel to the previous Planet of the Apes films, but also serves as a reboot that jumps centuries into the future. In the film, young ape Noa (Owen Teague) must embark on a journey to save his clan after they are enslaved by a warlord named Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand). Along the way, Noa meets a human named Mae (Freya Allan) and forges an uneasy alliance that could affect the future of humans and apes. Directed by Wes Ball, the film stars Peter Macon and William H. Macy.
The Alien franchise
In honor of the theatrical release of Alien: Romulus earlier this month, all eight other films in the series will be available to stream on Hulu. New to the series? Don’t worry, we’ve got a guide on how to watch the films in chronological order. Check out Ridley Scott’s original 1979 space thriller, James Cameron’s action-packed 1986 sequel, and the other adaptations before you see Alien: Romulus in theaters.
Immaculate
Sweeney’s divine horror film is streaming now. The rising star’s latest film, “Immaculate,” is about an American nun who moves to an Italian convent, only to discover it’s full of unspoken terrors and spooky secrets. The graphic film is quite different from Sweeney’s last romantic comedy, “Anyone But You.” Sweeney also produced “Immaculate,” as she did on the hit romantic comedy.
