Ocado launches same-day deliveries as UK online grocery giant offers customers Express It slots

Ocado has contacted its customers to inform them that same-day deliveries are now possible.

One email said: “Need ingredients for dinner or just craving your favorite snack? Let us know.”

“Yes, same day deliveries are now possible and we’ve aptly named them Express It Slots. The gist is: you’ll find these new same day delivery slots on the usual booking page and you’ll have until 11am to book a delivery for after 4pm on the same day. Everyone in?”

RTIH tested the service and found that the earliest available appointment was between 4.30pm and 5.30pm at 8am on Saturday 17 August, costing £5.99. There were also appointments available for later in the evening for £4.99.

Electronic shelf labels are not the enemy: US senators urge Kroger boss to raise ‘outrageous’ prices

In a recent letter to Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen, Senators Bob Casey (D-Penn.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) are calling for “more information to better understand the legitimacy and risks of electronic shelving.”

According to the senators, “increased use of dynamic pricing will drive up corporate profits – at the cost of which consumers will bear the costs.”

They wrote: “It is outrageous that grocery giants like Kroger continue to implement price spikes and other profiteering schemes while families continue to struggle to afford food.”

That’s a false perspective, according to Brittain Ladd, a supply chain consultant and former Amazon executive, who says he read the letter with amusement.

Commentary: Chris Riegel, CEO and founder of STRATACACHE, talks about the new hot opportunity in digital media

Retailers can offer advertisers something that is both illusory and extremely lucrative: accurate, attributable and immediately actionable data.

Over $140 billion will be spent on digital retail advertising worldwide this year.

Amazon probably makes more profit from its advertising services than from delivering products. Retail media is hailed by many as a gold rush, and with these numbers, it’s obvious why.

Many retailers are opening up their business lines to create more opportunities to reach key audiences (and, more importantly, important new revenue streams) through advertising in retail media.

Given this gold rush, one could argue that the store itself is a frontier that has not yet been fully explored and exploited. Since the end of the pandemic, online growth has stagnated, and 93% of all retail dollars are still spent in a physical store.
