WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – New businesses are popping up all over Washtenaw County, including a gourmet restaurant in Dexter and a Pink Café in Ann Arbor.

Here is some recent Washtenaw County business news you may have missed.

What is this? New restaurant in the former Fillmore Bar & Grill in Dexter

A new restaurant is set to open in a vacant building in downtown Dexter.

The new 42 North Social House is scheduled to open at 7954 Ann Arbor St., which was also the location of The Fillmore Bar & Grill before it closed in late December.

Marshalls moves to Arborland Mall in Ann Arbor

Marshalls has moved a few buildings down within the Arborland Shopping Center.

The off-price retailer recently moved from 3675 Washtenaw Ave. to 3635 Washtenaw Ave. and celebrated its grand opening on August 22nd.

New company brings Baumstriezel and an Instagrammable pink cafe to Ann Arbor

A new business is bringing Hungarian pastries and the color pink to downtown Ann Arbor.

Amanda Debek and her husband plan to open House of Chimney Cakes Café at 216 S. 4th Ave. in downtown Ann Arbor on August 31. This will be the first cafe in their franchise.

Wood-fired restaurant comes to Ann Arbor and opens food truck

A new food truck in downtown Ann Arbor will take over a corner of Main Street.

Echelon Kitchen + Bar is scheduled to open in late October in bd’s former Mongolian Grill space at 200 S. Main St. While construction continues, a food truck called Level Up by Echelon will be open in the meantime.

Restaurant owner reopens Chelsea Burger and wants to bring the traditional bar back to his hometown

A local restaurateur is set to take over a burger restaurant in downtown Chelsea that has been closed since June 2022.

Dan Kolander is looking to breathe new life into Chelsea Burger, 110 W. Middle St., with the help of his wife, Sarah. The couple operates Dan’s Downtown Tavern in Saline, which has been open for nearly 30 years.

Stone & Spoon closes after 4 years in downtown Ypsilanti

There will soon be one less business in downtown Ypsilanti.

Retailer Stone & Spoon, 110 W. Michigan Ave., is closing Sept. 1, said owner Jen Eastridge. The store has been known for selling home, kitchen and garden items since it opened in November 2020.

New company hopes to fill gap in custom frame market in downtown Saline

With the opening of a new custom framing shop, there is one less vacant storefront in downtown Saline.

Phoenix Custom Framing & Gallery opened in July at 104 W. Michigan Ave. in the former Rock, Paper, Scissors gift shop, which closed in 2023 along with the company’s toy store next door.

In her first cookbook, owner Maren Jackson presents 50 dishes and one never-before-seen recipe, paying tribute to the restaurant that has brought an all-vegetarian menu to the city over the past 50 years.
