Dear Annie, a deficiency that your doctor may overlook

Dear Annie, I have had many strange symptoms over the years that have gotten progressively worse and it has taken a lot of research to finally get help. I have a vitamin D and B12 deficiency that requires more than a multivitamin. Doctors don’t learn about nutrition in medical school and don’t know what a deficiency looks like. Vitamins are not part of routine blood work. Please advise your readers to ask to have their and their children’s vitamin levels checked when they have blood drawn. If you have a deficiency, it is important to educate yourself on the possible cause, symptoms and where to get help. A deficiency does not go away on its own and has health consequences over time. Thank you. – Vitamins can be vital

Dear Vitamins, Thank you for your letter. You raise a very important point about nutrition. You can get many of your vitamins by eating a balanced diet, but knowledge is power. Learning from your doctor which vitamins you are lacking can really help your overall health.
