1. Suspect in Tara Baker murder pleads not guilty, bail is denied

Edrick Lamont Faust, who is accused of murdering Tara Baker, a University of Georgia law student, in 2001, appeared at an arraignment at the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse on August 20. Faust pleaded not guilty and was denied bail.

2. The University of Georgia is building a new dormitory

The University of Georgia will begin construction on a new 125,000-square-foot freshman dormitory in late September, according to a report from the University System of Georgia.

3. Snelling Dining Commons changes opening hours for efficiency and cost reasons

The Snelling Dining Commons is making a major change to its hours of operation: the usual 24-hour operation will be replaced by a more limited schedule during the 2024–2025 academic year.

4. SJP demonstrates for Palestine and against the continuation of UGA student suspensions

On Thursday evening, the University of Georgia’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter held a rally and march at the Arch. In addition to calling for a ceasefire and UGA’s disclosure and divestment, the rally also focused on the recent ruling upholding the suspensions of students arrested during an April demonstration.
