“Brave New World” brings composer Laura Karpman on board

Laura Karpman will compose the score for Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World.”

Karpman is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having composed the music for the Disney+ series “What If…?” and “The Marvels.”

In the fourth Captain America film, Anthony Mackie plays flying superhero Sam Wilson, formerly known as Captain America’s sidekick Falcon. Mackie takes over the role from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who starred in the previous three Captain America films and the four Avengers films.

This time, Sam is greeted by Harrison Ford’s US President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who wants to make Captain America a US agent. The action quickly heats up when the superhero stops a would-be assassin in the White House. As previously confirmed, Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross will indeed transform into the Red Hulk in the film.

The film is scheduled for release in 2025, is directed by Julius Onah, produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth.

Karpman said: “I am thrilled to be working with Marvel Studios again on Captain America: Brave New World. I love everything about Sam Wilson: his determination, his intelligence, his grit and his charisma, and it is an honor to bring a compelling and powerful score to this phenomenal film.”

Karpman, who runs an all-women studio, has several projects in the pipeline, including several projects for Marvel (including Season 3 of “What If?” and the Apple Vision Pro Marvel Experience), “Justice” (the upcoming Doug Liman documentary about Brett Kavanaugh), a musical based on Dorothy Arzner’s MGM classic film “Dance Girl Dance,” two as-yet-unannounced video game projects and another as-yet-unannounced television series.

Karpman was most recently nominated for an Oscar for her original score for “American Fiction” and for an Emmy in the category “Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Documentary Special (Original Music for Drama)” for her work on the HBO original documentary “Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed.”

As the founder of the Alliance of Women Film Composers, Karpman is a strong advocate for diversity and equity in Hollywood. As the first female head of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ music division, Karpman implemented sweeping changes in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion and was instrumental in the inclusion of dozens of previously underrepresented voices.

Karpman is represented by UTA.
