Pilot Co. hires new Vice President of Energy Technology

Grant Leathers is the new vice president of energy technology at Pilot Co., the company announced CSP.

Leathers, who assumed the position in July, comes to Knoxville, Tennessee-based Pilot from Orange, California-based SC Fuels, where he served as chief information officer since January 2019.

Pilot acquired SC Fuels in 2021.

“I am privileged to lead the Pilot Company’s energy technology organization,” Leathers wrote on his LinkedIn page. “Our team provides technology platforms and solutions that support our transportation and logistics, utility, wholesale, midstream, commercial, cardlock, short truck and lubricants businesses. Together, these businesses deliver over 14 billion gallons annually to Pilot Travel Centers and Pilot Energy customers. We keep America moving!”

Prior to SC Fuels, Leathers spent nearly three years as vice president of technology operations at El Segundo, California-based Beachbody, which provides wellness and fitness services.

Leathers also served as senior director of strategic projects at Experian Consumer Services in Costa Mesa, California from 2013 to 2015. Previously, he served as senior director of corporate infrastructure at Kelley Blue Book, based in Irvine, California, from 2007 to 2012.

Leathers’ hiring comes after Pilot promoted Andy Lupo to chief technology officer in May, named Gary Hoogeveen as Pilot Energy’s new president in April and hired Shannon Sturgil as senior vice president of alternative fuels in January.

Founded in 1958, Pilot Travel Centers LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway based in Omaha, Nebraska. The company has approximately 900 locations in 44 states and six Canadian provinces and serves an average of 1.2 million customers per day. In addition to travel center services, Pilot and its partners provide a variety of fuel, credit, factoring, maintenance and rewards solutions to trucking fleets. The company operates the third largest tanker fleet in North America and delivers approximately 12 billion gallons of fuel annually. Pilot is a major supplier of biodiesel and renewable fuels and is developing a charging network for electric vehicles and low-carbon fuel alternatives.
