(BIVN) – Two emergency shelters will open in Puna to support residents affected by Hurricane Hone over the weekend.

The Hawaiʻi County Parks and Recreation Department announced at noon Monday that it will open emergency shelters at the Keaʻau Armory in Shipman Park and the Pāhoa Neighborhood Facility in Billy Kenoi District Park. Both locations will allow pets and have Wi-Fi, officials say.

The county says the shelters are being opened “to assist households experiencing extended power outages due to Hurricane Hone.”

According to a county press release, residents should bring the following items if they plan to use the shelters:

  • Prescriptions and emergency medications;
  • Hygiene products and other comfort items;
  • Necessary items for children and toddlers, such as diapers, formula and toys;
  • Pro transport boxes and necessary accessories for your pets; and
  • Chargers for all electronic devices you bring with you.
  • Donations are not currently requested.
