Editor’s note: This whisky was provided to us as a sample by the party responsible for it. In accordance with our editorial policy, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.

Among the many semi-regular releases from Heaven Hill’s extensive whiskey portfolio, the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon, released three times a year, is a consistently well-received look at cask strength from the well-known Elijah Craig brand. It’s released in January, May and September, so it’s always worth waiting for.

As a reminder of the labelling scheme, the first letter of the batch number indicates which edition of that year the bottle belonged to (starting with “A”), while the second digit is a number indicating the month of the year the bottle was released. The third and fourth digits indicate the year.

What’s in the bottle

The second release of 2024, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B524, which I’m reviewing here, was bottled at a hot ABV of 130.6 proof, which is significantly higher than the first release of this year, which was 119 proof. As always, this bourbon is non-chill filtered and undiluted.

It displays an age statement of 11 years and 2 months, which represents the youngest barrel in the batch and varies from release to release. It should be noted that this is the 12th year for the brand’s Barrel Proof line.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B524 currently costs $74.99.
