KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to grant an interim injunction on a plea filed by Armed Police Force (APF) officials seeking quashing of 30 years of service.
A single-judge bench of Saranga Subedi denied the interim injunction sought by the plaintiffs. The bench ordered that a written response be obtained from the defendants.
A week ago, on August 22, the Supreme Court issued an interim order in response to a similar plea filed by 21 police officers of the Nepal Police. Based on this order, APF officers who were due to retire on September 1 knocked on the court’s door. However, the court refused to issue an interim order as per their demand.
Twelve APF officials, including DIG Abhikumar Khatri, had filed the complaint.
The Supreme Court was expected to remove the 30-year service limit in the APF as well after a single-judge bench under Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal made a similar decision in the Nepal Police case. The decision barred the transfer of the officers, creating problems as over 90 police officers were due to retire on September 1.
The Interior Ministry is also preparing an appeal against the court’s decision.
