Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard will sponsor the Central New York regional spelling bee, to be held in spring 2025, and will send a regional champion to the national competition next May to compete for the Scripps Cup. The Syracuse Newspapers has sponsored the regional spelling bee since 1947.

Registration is open nationwide. Schools can register; the early bird fee is $185 through October.

Simran Sanders of Jamesville-Dewitt Middle School was the winner of last year’s regional competition. She placed 60th overall at the Scripps National Bee.

Lindsay Marlenga, senior director of marketing for syracuse.com | The Post-Standard believes the Scripps National Spelling Bee is much more than just a spelling bee.

“The Scripps National Spelling Bee not only improves our children’s spelling and reading skills,” she said. “It encourages practice, focus and dedication in a world with short attention spans, and it builds our children’s confidence with each correct spelling. It shines a light on the history and connectedness of language. syracuse.com and The Post-Standard are proud to support our local spellers’ journey again this year.”

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational program, established in 1925. By encouraging the exploration of words, the Bee illuminates pathways to lifelong curiosity, celebrates academic achievement, and enriches communities.
