No survivors after flight with 61 people crashes in Brazil (video)

A Voepass Passenger plane with 61 people on board tragically crashed Brazil on Friday, with no survivors, according to authorities. The plane was en route from Cascavel to Guarulhos airport near Sao Paulo when the crash occurred.

According to airline Voepass, there were 57 passengers and four crew members on board the plane. Voepass had originally reported 58 passengers, but later confirmed that the total was 61 and all on board died in the crash. One ticketed passenger was not on board, authorities said.

While the cause of the crash remains unknown, Voepass stated that Flight 2283 took off without any operational problems and all systems were functioning properly. The aircraft, a 14-year-old ATR 72 model, was flying at 17,000 feet when it suddenly began a rapid descent.

The crash was reported to the military police at 1:28 p.m. local time. Disturbing footage shows the plane spiraling out of the sky and exploding in a large fireball upon impact.

A local resident was injured in the accident, but further details are not yet known. Brazil’s President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva asked for a minute’s silence for the victims during an event on Friday. The governor of Sao Paulo canceled his trip to Vitoria to address the situation.

The Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the crash, and aircraft manufacturer ATR also fully supports the investigation. ATR expressed its condolences and said: “Our first thoughts go out to all those affected by this incident.”
