Danish Days seek applicants for parade
The parade is seeking participants who would like to participate in the main event during the 87th annual Solvang Danish Days festival, September 20-22 in downtown Solvang.
The main parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at 2:30 p.m.
This year’s Solvang Danish Days theme is “Det Dansk, Det Dejligt,” or “It’s Danish, it’s Delightful!” and the event features authentic food, music, dancing, parades, live entertainment and family activities.
Day 1 begins on Friday at 4pm with a live concert downtown, axe throwing fun, a Viking beer and wine garden, an evening torchlight procession and opening ceremonies.
On Saturday, Solvang’s famous Aebleskiver is the focus of the annual Æbleskiver Breakfast, which begins at 8:30 a.m. This is followed by a series of activities, including the Solvang Danish Days LEGO building contest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Danish Days parade.
On Sunday there will be another Aebleskiver breakfast, followed by the conclusion of the LEGO competition, an Aebleskiver eating contest and a closing ceremony in Solvang Park at 2:30 p.m.
SYV Charter continues school feeding program
Santa Ynez Valley Charter School continues to participate in the California Universal Meals program, providing two free meals per day to its students.
The program provides two nutritious meals a day – breakfast and lunch. According to John Dewey, executive director of the schools, lunch contains one-third of the recommended daily amount.
The program, he noted, not only offers convenience and affordability to parents, but also contributes to the physical and mental well-being of students, thereby supporting their learning.
Studies have shown that children whose nutritional needs are met pay more attention in class.
Registration for 5K Colorthon at Mission Club open

Participants go through an untimed course with “color stations” where volunteers throw colored powder (colored corn starch) at passersby.
Funds raised through registrations and sponsorships will benefit the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation in purchasing a wheelchair-accessible paratransit van for the Comprehensive Care Center, event organizers said.
Sponsors of various kinds are being sought in advance of the event. Information can be found at lhdfoundation.org/color
Pre-registration is available at lhdfoundation.org/color. Cost is $30 per adult or $25 per person in a team of four, and $15 for participants ages 5-12.
