A nationwide solar park with over 100 MW of power is being built on the roofs of self-storage facilities

reports that a solar energy company is leasing 774,000 square feet of roof space on the buildings for its latest solar panel project.

The new solar panel network on the roofs of NSA’s 1,052 self-storage facilities and properties in 42 states and Puerto Rico owned by commercial and community solar developer Solar Landscape is expected to generate at least 100 megawatts of solar power. Headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, NSA is one of the largest self-storage operators in the country with brands including iStorage, Move It, Northwest and SecurCare.

These solar panels will not only generate electricity for NSA facilities. They will also provide clean electricity to nearby businesses and homes at an affordable price.

One of the challenges of using solar energy is finding enough space for the solar panels. These panels can take up a lot of space, such as the solar power plant that set a world record in 2019: 3.2 million solar panels took up over 3 square miles of space.

Solar Landscape and the NSA may have found an interesting solution to the space problem of solar projects. If this partnership is successful, it could inspire similar agreements for other communities looking to benefit from solar power technology.
