Boox Go 6: Android-based e-reader available for 0

Following the impressive Go Color 7, Onyx has launched the Android-based e-reader Boox Go 6 at an enticing entry-level price.

This 6-inch e-reader looks eerily similar to the Kindle range, but has some notable advantages over the bound Amazon device. One of the biggest claimed advantages here is an improved Carta 1300 screen, which is based on the latest E Ink technology and offers deeper blacks and whiter whites. The Boox Go 6’s resolution is 1,448 x 1,072 pixels with 300 ppi.

Unfortunately, unlike the color-capable Go Color 7, it only supports monochrome colors. However, many of the features of its big sibling are also available here, including text-to-speech, support for up to 20 document formats, and a native light and dark mode for comfortable content use.

Other notable hardware features of the Boox Go 6 include 32GB of onboard storage, 2GB of RAM, and an unspecified octa-core SoC. The battery is quite small at just 1,500mAh, but the lower-power and lower-resolution display should mean it lasts a long time. USB-C charging is standard here, but there’s no mention of charging speeds. Bluetooth 5.0 is also available for connecting your other accessories.

A heavily modified version of Android 12 is used here, which should allow some additional customization options and access to the Play Store, so you are not limited to standard e-reader tasks with the Boox Go 6. At just 160g, it is a lightweight accessory that can be slipped into a bag or even a large trouser pocket and used on the go.

Priced at $149.99, Onyx is clearly targeting the Kindle Paperwhite with the Boox Go 6. While it probably won’t reach the same sales numbers, it could be a great alternative that offers more usability than just reading.
