Ice T briefly answers a fan’s question about whether everything is back to “normal” on Law & Order: SVU

law and order: Special unit for victims Star Ice T has refuted a fan’s claim that the long-running police drama has become “woke.”

Ice T, 66, whose real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow, has played Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola on the NBC series for over two decades after joining in the second season in 2001.

He will return for the season 26 premiere in October. To celebrate his return to the set, he posted a behind-the-scenes photo of production on X in early August with the caption, “Seems like everyone is at the OLYMPICS… I’m at work.” SVU on site. Season 26.”

Weeks later, on Tuesday (27 August), a fan responded to his tweet and wrote: “Did they write SVU back to normal? It started to wake up.”

The actor and rapper replied curtly: “What the f*** is woke? lol like I give a shit.”

Created by Dick Wolf, Law & Order: SVU debuted in 1999. It was the first spin-off in the franchise after the original law and orderfrom which six more shows emerged: Organized crime, Criminal intent, Jury Trial, True Crime, Law & Order: LA And Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.

law and orderwhich premiered in 1990, is preparing to begin its 24th season this fall. After season 20 in 2010, the series took a 12-year hiatus before rebooting with season 21 in 2022.

SVU is directed by Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson, a New York Police Department detective who investigates sex crimes.

Over the years, the show has had a rotating cast, including Christopher Meloni, the late Richard Belzer, Dann Florek, BD Wong and Tamara Tunie.

The main cast currently consists of Hargitay, Ice T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Octavio Pisano.

In an interview in July 2023 with diversityIce T reflected on his role as Detective Fin and clarified: “I’m not a cop. I’m anything but a cop.”

“People say our TV shows are police propaganda that put the police in a good light. I understand that argument,” he acknowledged.

“The cop I am on our show is an SVU detective… When I got the job at SVUDick Wolf said to me, ‘Ice, you don’t like cops, do you?’ I told him that throughout my criminal past, I didn’t hate cops – they were my enemies. (He asked,) ‘But you admit we need them, don’t you?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ So Wolf told me to play the cop we need. And if I play the cop we need, I’m not going to have any problems with it.”
