Batman is more powerful than ever and proves he should leave Gotham forever

Warning: Contains spoilers for Batman: Off-World No. 5!From an orphan in an alley to a space hero who overthrows an alien empire. Batman has come quite a long way. While DC has exploded from street crime to world-shattering crises over the past few decades, Batman, as a hero without superpowers, has only had to play catch-up. In the latest turn of events, Batman has proven that he has evolved far beyond the simple city of Gotham.

Batman is in dire straits in a preview for Batman: Alien #5 by Jason Aaron and Doug Mahnke. In the fight against a Thanagarian bounty hunter in the depths of space, Batman still uses his fighting skills that he acquired on the blood-soaked asphalt streets of Gotham so that he can turn the tables in his favor.

Batman dodges just in time and compares his action to using oncoming traffic to ram his opponent. Gotham is with him, even in space, and with Gotham, Batman hits his enemy with a fist the size of a cityand shows how strong Batman has become.

Batman is first and foremost a Gotham hero. This preview shows Batman fighting even in space in the only way he can understand. The noise of battle, whether in space or on Earth, is the same to him and will always remind him of the bustling streets of Gotham. But Batman is no longer in Gotham – The Dark Knight fights against an alien surrounded by spaceships. Not only that, he doesn’t win the fight on his own home turf, proving that he has outgrown his usual environment.

Batman’s tactical mind is useless in a city full of crime bosses like Gotham.

Batman’s tactical mind is wasted in a city full of crime bosses like Gotham. After so many disasters solved by Batman’s brilliant hand, he has proven that he belongs in space just like Superman – even more so when you consider that in space he’s fighting for every breath, something Superman takes for granted. It’s Batman’s orphaned resilience to fight through any situation that helps him survive in space – and not just survive, but conquer space as a true science fiction hero.

It is clear: Batman is no longer a costumed hero in tights. He reaches a real apotheosis, especially in this series, when a man who stands in the ranks of the gods. Even in the Absolute Universe, he becomes the most evil version of the Dark Knight to ever grace a comic book page. Batman doesn’t just fight criminals now; he beats them with the power of an entire city.

This is the evolution of the Dark Knight. He may be stranded in space and far away from Gotham, but Gotham cannot be torn from within him. Wherever he goes, he takes the city with him. You can hardly call him an Avenger anymore. Batman now belongs in space, in large-scale battles and events, because Batman is much more than just a belt full of Batarangs – he’s a space hero with Gotham-sized punching power.
