Second Baseman James Triantos was 2 for 4 with one steal. Triantos has 46 steals this year, eight with Iowa.

Right fielder Owen Caissie was 2 for 4 with a triple. (More on that below.) Caissie scored two runs and struck out one.

Here’s Caissie’s three. This is not what we meant when we told Alfonso Rivas to stay focused.

Thompson’s home run.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels) 5-1.

Chris Kachmar started and allowed one run on a home run in the fifth inning, not much else. Kachmar picked up his eighth win after allowing one run on three hits in six innings. He struck out three times and walked once.

All five runs in this game were scored by the right fielder. Felix Stevens. In the second inning, Stevens hit a three-run home run. It was his 20th of the year and his seventh with the Smokies. Stevens then hit a two-run single in the third inning. He was 2 for 5.

Shortstop Fabian Pertuz was 2 for 4.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs lost to the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers) 6-3 in 11 innings.

Drew Gray had an interesting start. Gray allowed no runs on one hit in 3.1 innings. He struck out eight (!) and walked six (?).

Tyler Santana got stuck pitching extra innings, allowed one run in the tenth, three more in the eleventh and lost. His final total was four runs, three earned, on five hits in two innings. He allowed two walks and struck out one.

Third Baseman Daniela Schmidt While he still didn’t hit a home run, he was 2 for 4 with an RBI double to tie the eighth inning. Smith was also forced into an intentional walk once.

Second Baseman Pedro Ramirez was 2 for 4 and scored two goals.

The SB Cubs had four hits tonight. That’s all.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Down East Wood Ducks (Astros) 3-0.

Three Pelicans pitchers combined to throw a three-hitter. Tyler Sleeper pitched the first six innings and earned the win after allowing just two hits. He pitched eight strikeouts and did not allow a walk, despite hitting two batters.

Kenyi Perez threw the seventh inning and struck out the team in order.

Vince Reilly earned the save after pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit, walking one run and striking out two runs.

Right fielder Ivan Brethowr hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his second. He also had an RBI groundout in the third inning, bringing in all three runs. Brethowr was 1 for 3.

A clever defense from Schlaffer.

All the highlights. There’s not much here.
