DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Here in the Warren Avenue community in Dearborn, people who live nearby tell me that power outages have been a constant occurrence this year and they feel like they’re pros at dealing with them.

“I guess I’ll be grilling all day today,” said Tim Stallworth. “Maybe some shish kebabs, some hot dogs, some hamburgers.”

Tim has little choice but to save the hundreds of dollars worth of food in his refrigerator.

“I try to always be one step ahead of the competition, so to speak,” said Tim.

His family is just one of more than 330,000 customers who were without power after Tuesday’s storms.

“This year it’s about the fourth or fifth time and it’s ridiculous.”

This is a common problem for some residents of Warren Avenue in Dearborn.

“When it’s windy, it always goes out,” said Fahd Aboluhoom.

Now each of them has their own routine.

“Personally, I don’t tolerate heat well, so I sleep in my car and charge my phone in the car,” Kayla said.

“It’s terrible. I’m actually going to my dad’s because we can’t stand the heat and I have to work,” Stormy said.

“I go outside because it can get hot inside,” Maher said.

“We actually lit candles last night,” said Tim.

DTE expects service to be restored to 90 percent of customers affected by the storm by Thursday evening.

“Otherwise I will have to go somewhere else with my family, like a hotel or something, because it is too hot,” said Fahd.

Tim says this is the last time he will be at someone else’s mercy.

“I’m getting a generator on Friday,” said Tim.
