Severe storms cause damage and power outages throughout the Detroit metropolitan area

Some Detroit residents are without power and others are still cleaning up after severe thunderstorms hit the region overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of over 75 miles per hour at Detroit Metro Airport Wednesday evening. The strong winds tore down tree branches and caused power outages throughout the region.

DTE Energy reported more than 200,000 power outages on Wednesday morning. Mostly dry and humid weather is expected on Thursday, with highs of 27 degrees. Thunderstorms are expected again on Friday, with heat indices of
from the late 80s to the mid 90s.
