Footage from “Born Again” promises showdown with Kingpin in the style of “Heat”

Disney had previously announced that Daredevil: Born Again would launch on Disney+ in March 2025 – but no, during D23 2024 on Friday, the company did not announce a specific date when the Marvel Studios reboot starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will premiere.

However, Daredevil: Born Again is almost here. And Marvel Studios’ massive streaming series, which is just starting filming its second season, showed off brand new footage from the show’s first season. And it’s a blast.

While the footage was brief, it offered some great glimpses of Kingpin (D’Onofrio) perched atop a building like a snarling gargoyle; Daredevil (Cox again) beating up some really bad guys; and an interaction between Daredevil and the Punisher (a returning Jon Bernthal).

It should be noted that there are significantly fewer low-budget hallway fights. And the whole thing feels much more mature and complicated than the average Marvel Studios series on Disney+. (There’s even a steamy shower scene!)

One of the most compelling moments was a conversation between Kingpin (who, judging by the American flag pin on his lapel, appears to be the mayor or some other politician) and Daredevil. Kingpin asks who he is talking to – lawyer Matt Murdock or his “darker half.” Then Kingpin laughs menacingly.

There’s also a moment near the end where Daredevil interacts with Ms. Marvel’s father (Mohan Kapur). It was notable that a series that prides itself on its toughness, realism, and extremes would be paired with a Marvel Studios series known for its charming hilarity. But hey, the MCU has tons of that.

We can hardly wait.

Dario Scardapane, who worked in the Marvel Universe as an EP and writer on Netflix’s “The Punisher,” is the show’s new showrunner. Co-directing team Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed several episodes of “Loki” Season 2, have also been named to direct the remaining episodes. Corman and Ord are listed as executive producers.
