GTA 6 Online introduces official modding and user-generated content: report

GTA 6 Online is rumored to feature official modding support. Although Rockstar Games has yet to officially announce the next version of their online multiplayer game, fans have discovered clues that point to the possible integration of a modding tool in the upcoming version. A recent report by @GTAFocal on X, which included interviews with several former FiveM employees, suggests that Rockstar is preparing to introduce modding and user-generated content to GTA 5 Online. However, until Rockstar Games confirms this, it remains speculation.

GTA 6 Online could include modding and user-generated content

A report from GTA Focal (via Sportskeeda) has revealed confidential details about the upcoming GTA 6 Online. To understand the context, it is important to know that in August 2023, Rockstar Games acquired FiveM, also known as Cfx.re. This platform hosts numerous Grand Theft Auto 5 RP servers. Former FiveM employees later found out that Rockstar was already working on a competing tool that ultimately failed to succeed.

After acquiring Cfx.re, Rockstar gained more control and insight into how the tool works. GTA Online expanded its offering in June 2024 with a downloadable content pack that introduced a platform-wide “Mission Creator” tool. Tez2, a well-known insider and data miner, found this tool in the PC files and noted that it was “currently empty.” Rumor has it that this tool will bring FiveM to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and allow GTA Online players to create their own modified gameplay.

According to the report, Rockstar’s new project will likely become part of GTA Online in the early fall months. The game is also expected to be available on next-gen consoles in the near future. In addition, sources have mentioned that Rockstar is developing a new game engine called ROME – Rockstar Original Mod Engine. Rumors suggest that this engine will be tested in GTA 5 Online before being integrated into GTA 6 Online.
