Who is Jaydon Blue? Analysis of the Texas Longhorns’ newest starting running back

Unfortunately, CJ Baxter, Texas’ projected starting running back for 2024, suffered a knee injury during a fall workout and will be out for the upcoming season.

However, the Longhorns are not exactly lacking in running backs and their next candidate is not one to be ignored.

Jaydon Blue, a junior, is entering his third season with the Horns and with Baxter now out, Blue is expected to be the RB1 for Texas.

Over the past two seasons, Blue has played behind stars like Bijan Robinson, Jonathon and CJ Baxter.

But with Robinson and Jonathon now in the NFL and Baxter unfortunately out, Blue is finally being called up as a starter for the unique Texas Longhorns.

In his first two seasons for Texas, Blue only played 80 games, but he managed 431 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Blue also had 14 pass catches for 135 yards and one touchdown through the air in 2023.

Originally from Houston, Blue stands 6’0″ and weighs 200 pounds – the perfect size for a ball carrier who can take hit after hit without losing power.

With Blue expected to be RB1, the question is, who is the next man up for Texas?

Sophomore Quintrevion “Tre” Wisner is expected to be the Longhorns’ RB2. Last season for Texas, Wisner had 12 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Behind Wisner is freshman running back Jerrick Gibson from Gainesville, FL. Gibson was an All-American and All-District honoree in high school and is 5’10” and 200 pounds.
