From old to new! Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged again.
Lopez posted a video for her On the JLo fan newsletter late Friday to announce the big news.
“I have a really exciting and special story to tell,” said Lopez said in a video posted on her social media accounts with the caption “Important announcement!!!!” and directed fans to onthejlo.com. “This is my inner circle where I share my more personal stuff and this one definitely goes out to JLo.”
In the video, Lopez is seen admiring the ring and whispering, “You are perfect.” Affleck proposed with a ring that had two smaller diamonds on either side of a large green diamond in the center – a different shade than the pink diamond he first proposed with in 2002.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Lopez and Affleck for comment.
Affleck was likely aware that the color green is meaningful to Lopez. In another On the JLo newsletter, she talked about the shade being her “lucky color.”
“You may remember a certain green dress,” she wrote, probably referring to the iconic Versace dress she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards that made her a superstar. “I’ve noticed that there are many moments in my life when amazing things have happened while I was wearing green. Maybe it’s a coincidence, maybe not. But when I looked closer, I realized there are no coincidences.”
Lopez and Affleck’s appearance at the premiere of “Marry Me” in February suggested that the actress was once again in the bridal mood. Wearing a short white dress, the singer cuddled up to Affleck on the red carpet and exchanged a few kisses.
Rumors of a reconciliation between Lopez and Affleck first sparked rumors that the couple was spotted together several times last April, shortly after Lopez split from former baseball player Alex Rodriguez.
The two officially confirmed their relationship on Instagram in July: Lopez posted a photo of herself kissing Affleck while celebrating her 52nd birthday.
“5 2 … what it does …” she wrote at the time when the relationship was revealed.
Since then, they have been seen together on the red carpet at film festivals and at the 2021 Met Gala in September.
Lopez and Affleck met on the set of the 2002 romantic comedy Gigli, when Lopez was still married to her second husband, dancer Cris Judd. Although the film flopped terribly at the box office, there were definitely sparks between Lopez and Affleck. The couple went public with their relationship shortly after Lopez’s divorce from Judd.
The “Hustlers” star told People that when she met Affleck back then, she “felt like… ‘Okay, this is it.'”

The “Bennifer” romance took early 2000s pop culture by storm. The Hollywood power couple got engaged in November 2002 with a pink engagement ring, but the engagement did not end with a happy ending. Lopez and Affleck called off their engagement in 2004, blaming the media attention for the end of their relationship.
In 2008, Affleck said he and Lopez were “too accessible” during their high-profile relationship: “I think Jen and I made a mistake. We fell in love, we were excited, and maybe we were too accessible. I don’t think either of us expected the extent to which this whole thing would become a world of its own.”
Fast forward to 2022: The engagement is back.
Together, Lopez and Affleck have five children from previous marriages. Lopez has 14-year-old twins Emme and Max with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, and Affleck has 16-year-olds Violet, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10, with her ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
