A night full of new friendships in Brooklyn

This week at The Cut, we talked about the end of friendships and the complications that arise in such relationships—and what better way to celebrate than to spend the evening with friends old and new? On Wednesday, The Cut readers gathered at Happy Medium in Greenpoint for an evening of crafting and making new friends. The cafe—where it can be harder to get a table than at Sailor—offers an extensive selection of arts and crafts, such as mug painting, watercolor painting, and friendship bracelet making. With the weather getting better, it was the perfect place to start a conversation while crafting.

For me, it was an opportunity to hang out with coworkers outside of the office and eat BonBon candy together, which, at least in my eyes, instantly brought us closer together. In the backyard, friends and strangers gathered around tables with colorful beads, a conversation piece jar, and lots of Cut tote bags filled with gifts from Meet Flamingo, Inside Then Out, Erborian, and California Naturals.

Although the craft was up to you, most people stuck with making beaded bracelets that you could add a personal touch to, like your name, a letter, or in my case, a phone number. You never know when that might come in handy! And no, I didn’t know that was Travis Kelce’s first move on Taylor Swift, but I have to give him credit for being crafty. When it was time to call it a day, people picked up their crafts, filled their candy bags to the brim, and left with more friends than when they came. It was a win all around.
