A review of the Hotel Le Toiny in St. Barth

Hotel Le Toiny is a hyper-luxury boutique stay on the Caribbean’s chicest island, St. Barth. The intimate lobby, where you receive your first “bonjour” from a friendly French-accented team member, is an indoor-outdoor space with a commanding vantage point of the enchanting sea below. In between is an open-air restaurant (we’ll get to the details later) and an infinity pool that disappears into a sloping hill, watching over the sea-level village of Anse de Toiny.

Fourteen French colonial-style villas are spread out on this small hill overlooking the sea. Each has an open floor plan and a private infinity pool. Vaulted beamed ceilings, cream-and-sand colored furniture and wood details decorate the interiors. It’s a small hotel with big rooms – and that’s one of its greatest charms. You know you’re staying in “the right place” when every accommodation is a suite (c’est la suite life).

The hotel’s beach club is a 20-minute walk down (or a five-minute shuttle ride): a restaurant serving lunch, a pool, and a deck lined with loungers overlooking the lapping Caribbean Sea. Order a cocktail at golden hour, and it’ll seem like all your off-island worries are solved (at least for the moment).

Need a spa day? Then you don’t have to move a muscle because the masseuse comes to you. Choose from Elemis massages, manicures and hot shell blends made from lava shells, all in the comfort of your room. If you want to quench your thirst for a workout, the sea-view gym offers personal training sessions (you burn calories faster with a view). Yoga and Pilates classes are available on the beach (hot yoga, of course).

While lunch awaits you at the Beach Club, the open-air Le Gaiac restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with flavors of the island. With more than 300 varieties, the wine list here is one of the most impressive on St. Barth. The hotel bar is right next door – the Caribbean rum punch or a lychee martini are a must.

And there is even more in the pipeline: In terms of accommodation, the hotel will have 13 private residences in addition to the current 22 villas.
