ABC announces Grant Ellis is the new Bachelor

ABC’s newest “Bachelor” is none other than Grant Ellis, who had an emotional exit after Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelorette.”

Ellis will be only the second black Bachelor in the reality dating show’s 20-year history. The first was Matt James during season 25 of The Bachelor in 2021.

Ellis’ search for love will continue early next year when the show’s 29th season premieres.

“As the Bachelor, Ellis wants to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure and real connections,” ABC said in a press release. “He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.”

Grant Ellis was “exactly my type,” says Bachelorette

Ellis’ charm and good looks weren’t enough for Jenn Tran, who kicked him off the show, USA TODAY reported. Although Ellis was her type, she couldn’t imagine going home to meet his family.

“He’s hot, he’s hot and he’s hot,” Tran said.

Although Ellis is ultimately disappointed by Tran’s decision, it presents him with another opportunity to find his partner.

“But when life knocks you down, you have to be able to pivot. So I ended up in finance and it’s been a steep climb from there,” he said. “The only thing I’m missing right now is myself.”

Grant Ellis is a “self-proclaimed mama’s boy”

Ellis, a 30-year-old former professional basketball player and day trader, is a “self-proclaimed mama’s boy,” according to ABC, whose infectious smile and unwavering positivity instantly brighten up any room he enters.

“When he’s not immersed in the fast-paced world of finance, you can find him cheering on the Lakers, hitting strikes at the bowling alley or belting out songs at karaoke night,” ABC said in a press release following the announcement.

Ellis also enjoys salsa dancing, plans to travel to every country in the world and “wishes he could live in the year 3000 to see what technology is like,” according to his ABC biography ahead of his season of “The Bachelorette.”
