After the storm on Sunday evening, 1,800 people in Warren County are still without power

VICKSBURG, miss. – Entergy Mississippi provided an update on its power restoration plan following Sunday night’s storm that left about 5,000 homes in the city and county without power.

As the storm continued, Eagle Lake experienced a complete power outage, parts of Vicksburg and Warren County reported high winds, and residents of Fisher Ferry behind Yorktown reported swirling winds and pressure marks on their windows.

Damage assessments found damage to 53 poles, 15 transformers, 35 trusses and over 42,000 feet of downed power lines across the state. At its peak, 21,103 homes were without power as a result of the storm on Sunday evening.

As of this writing, nearly 1,800 homes in Warren County are still without power. Entergy expects repairs to be completed by 10 p.m. tonight.

Because power could not be restored to Warrenton Elementary, the campus will be closed on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Please note that Entergy restoration workers will not be able to restore power to a location with a damaged meter base, conduit, or weatherhead (the metal pipe that protrudes from the structure and contains electrical wires). These items must be repaired by a qualified electrician before our workers can restore power. Learn more about the electrical equipment that powers your home.

As with any storm event, please follow these safety tips:

  • Live power lines can kill. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1-800-9OUTAGE or 1-800-968-8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, damaged or fallen poles, or other damaged equipment.
  • Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only utility employees or their contractors should remove trees or branches that touch power lines. And again, stay away from downed power lines.
  • Stay away from the immediate work areas of workers. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of building materials, tree branches or overhead wires falling to the ground.
  • If you plan to use a generator for temporary power, consult a licensed electrician and disconnect it from the utility power supply before connecting it to your main electrical box.
  • Do not operate a generator indoors without adequate ventilation. Use only outdoors and follow all manufacturer’s safety guidelines.
  • Turn off all electrical appliances that can be easily turned off until power is restored.
