Assam HS 1st year Environmental education Curriculum: This article provides the Class 11 Environmental Education syllabus of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, AHSEC. This is the official syllabus released by the board on its official website ahsec.assam.gov.in. The syllabus is for the academic year 2024-2025. Therefore, students must check and analyze the syllabus thoroughly to understand the topics and subtopics that they need to prepare for their exams. AHSEC Class 11 Environmental education Curriculum 2024-2025

Unit-wise distribution of course content:

Unit 1: Environmental Education

Chapter -1 Basic concept of the environment

Components of the environment, environmental segments, environmental education, multidisciplinary nature, need for environmental awareness.

Chapter – 2 Ecological concept

Meaning of ecology and ecosystem, types of ecosystems, structure of ecosystems, function of an ecosystem, food chain, food web and trophic levels.

Chapter – 3 Biodiversity and its conservation

The concept of biodiversity, value of biodiversity, threats to biodiversity, conservation of biodiversity, national nature conservation strategies.

Chapter – 4 Natural Resources

Natural resources, various types of natural resources, forest resources, natural resource conservation, water resources, land resources and mineral resources.

Chapter – 5 Environmental Pollution

Introduction. The term pollution, Different types of pollution, Classification of pollutants, Causes of pollution, Air pollution, Deforestation, Vehicle exhaust, Combustion of fossil fuels, Rapid industrialization, Classification of air pollutants, Water pollution, Water borne diseases, Soil pollution, Noise pollution, Environmental impact of solid waste.

Chapter – 6 Social and environmental issues

Concept of sustainable development, energy sources, energy saving, environment and health, greenhouse gas effect, global warming, climate change, ozone layer depletion, acid rain.

Unit 2: Disaster Management

Responsibilities and precautions

Introduction, Natural Disasters, Man-made Disasters, Disaster Management, Role of Students in Disaster Management, Steps to be taken during search and rescue operations, What ‘not to do’ during a disaster, Disaster Management Initiatives in India.

Unit 3: Road safety (10 points)

What does road safety mean? Causes of road accidents, road safety issues, some statistics on road accidents, road rules to be followed when traveling by bus, helmet, vehicle exhaust, seat belt, driving license, international driving license, important motor vehicle laws, traffic lights, road signs.

PROJECT (Total score: 10)

Each student should complete and submit a project under the supervision of a teacher. The ten marks awarded for the project will be counted towards the final examination in Environmental Education. Students can complete their projects on any of the following topics. In addition, students can also complete their projects under the supervision of a teacher on topics related to the subject.

(a) Collect data by visiting a local environmental resource such as a river/forest/grassland/farmland/hill.

(b) Make a note by visiting some polluted areas such as cities, villages, industrial areas, etc.

(c) Make a daily list by observing a nearby plant/insect/bird/animal for three months and noting its changes, movements and effects on the environment.

(d) Submit a report on visiting a particular place during the summer holidays, noting its natural environment, natural resources, environmentally dependent economy and social aspects related to environmental protection.

(e) Prepare a first aid kit in case of disaster.

(f) Prepare a list of telephone numbers and addresses of emergency services such as police station, fire station, hospital, disaster management division office, municipal office, deputy commissioner’s office, block development office, etc.

(g) By visiting the neighbouring areas affected by the disaster, a report shall be prepared detailing the causes, results, measures for rescue operations and steps taken to neutralise future probabilities.

(h) Prepare a picture table of mandatory/warning traffic symbols according to the traffic regulations.

(i) Prepare a pictorial note about the traffic flow around your school and the rules to be followed to keep the facility free from pollution and maintain a healthy environment.

(j) Establish an Eco-Club in school and conduct various environment related programmes / World Environment Day / Road Safety Week / National Disaster Reduction Day (29th October) etc.
