Alumna appointed new chair of NASPA Women’s Center

By Kenneth Mullinax, Jr./ASU

Dr. Rolanda Horn, a graduate of Alabama State University and holder of two degrees from O’ Mother Dear (ASU 2000-BS and ASU 2019-Ph.D.), has been named chair-elect of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Center for Women. She has served on the board for two years.

Dr. Horn explained that NASPA is a “diverse international organization” with more than 15,000 members active in student affairs. She explained that in 2001, NASPA established what is now known as the Center for Women, which, according to its mission, addresses the issues facing women in higher education. Dr. Horn has served on several NASPA committees, most recently the Strategic Planning Task Force.

Horn, who works full-time as director of assessment at Wallace Community College in Selma, believes her education at Alabama State University gave her the push she needed to both pursue a doctorate and hold key leadership positions in organizations like NASPA.

“I am honored to be able to work for and serve the members of the national professional association,” Horn said. “And I must thank Alabama State University for everything they have done to help me be the best I can be in my chosen profession.”
