American tourists thought they had hit the jackpot when their hotel offered them a free room – but there was a big catch

An American couple felt exposed when they discovered that their spare room was a glass box in the lobby of a hotel in Ibiza.

Margaret and Corey Bienert – the duo A Pretty Cool Hotel Tour – stayed in the Zero Suite of the Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel in 2022 – a completely glass-enclosed room in the lobby.

“We were completely unprepared for this experience,” Margaret said in a TikTok video on Monday. “All I knew was that you get one night free when you book. And I thought the idea was so fun, so of course I wanted to try it out.”

“And when we got there, we realized that the lights never turn off and you’re basically on display all night long.”

When the couple booked the room, they didn’t realize it was an art hotel and the Zero Suite was part of the experience, with guests being “part of the art.”

“You are the art, which means people want to watch you do something,” she said in another video.

Many guests asked the couple if they were going to have sex in the room, but they said that was definitely not on their agenda.

In a 2022 video, Margaret joked, “That’s what you get for staying for free,” before panning her camera to show the all-glass exterior facade, where guests gather in the lobby and some even film them.

“You get what you pay for,” she joked.

To make matters worse, the lights in the room cannot be turned off, so guests have to sit under the neon light until morning.

Margaret showed the room and the lobby at midnight, with bright strips of light around them.

Two years later, she reveals what she would have done differently to enjoy the experience even more and “entertain the guests.”

Guests of the Zero Suite must follow a few rules, including signing a waiver allowing anyone to film them, staying a full night, only allowing two people in the room, and not rebooking the experience more than once per calendar year.

She suggested guests brave enough to spend the evening in the glass box performing the “entire setlist of the (Taylor Swift) Eras Tour” or creating a “live painting.” She also suggested selling $5 kisses to passersby through the glass or pretending to be locked in the room.

“There is so much room for creativity in this space,” Margaret said. “Unfortunately, I just wasn’t prepared, so I’ll have to leave it up to a future guest to do one or more of those things.”

The hotel recommends the room to any guest who enjoys being “the center of attention,” it told US Glass Magazine in 2022.

Guests can stay overnight in the rooms, but they can also host “artistic performances, radio broadcasts, DJ sets” and much more.

Guests at the Zero Suite must follow a few rules, including signing a waiver allowing them to be filmed, staying an entire night, only being allowed to accommodate two people in the room, and not being allowed to rebook the experience more than once per calendar year, according to the magazine.

“This year we had to turn people away due to high demand,” a representative told US Glass Magazine.

The room option has been available since the hotel opened in 2018.
