Anantara The Marker Dublin Hotel offers unique travel experiences

I’m sitting in the back of an SUV listening to one of the world’s most sought-after horse trainers and former champion jockeys explain his daily routine. We’re driving through some of the greenest hills I’ve ever seen, and mist swirls through the air, so our group will only stay in slightly damp places all day. Johnny Murtagh was champion jockey five times during his racing career before opening his own horse training facility. The facility is located in Curragh, Ireland, where he first raced. Seeing his operation is usually reserved for his clients, such as the Aga Khan and Qatar Racing.

“Is he coming? He’s got attitude,” Murtagh calls out to a rider as he passes our car. He checks in with each rider in the field as the horses trot past us. It’s a somewhat surreal experience and something about my trip to Ireland that is truly unique, which feels like an increasingly tall order in a world where virtually every travel experience has been shared by countless others.

As part of an exclusive tour offered by Anantara The Marker, I was able to join a private group tour and get a behind-the-scenes look at how these horses are trained, as well as learn about Murtagh and his wife while sitting in their beautiful kitchen. It is one of several unique experiences offered by the hotel. The Marker is just one of many hotels today that seek to attract guests not only through first-class hospitality, but also through unparalleled excursions that meet the traveler’s desire for unique adventures.

“The modern traveller is looking for authentic experiences and wants to immerse themselves in the culture of the destination,” says Hannah McGrath, Marketing and Communications Manager. “We are proud to present guests with the true magic of Ireland as soon as they walk through our doors.”
