Anti-Israel activists argue online with black supporters of Kamala Harris and practice “identity politics”

Black Americans and Israel critics are arguing on social media platforms like TikTok about the Democratic candidate’s approach to the Gaza war.

The war in Gaza has divided the Democratic Party and the political left in general since the October 7 terrorist attack and Israel’s subsequent military response. Much of the backlash against Democratic Party leadership, such as the Uncommitted movement, began when President Biden was still the presumptive nominee. While Vice President Kamala Harris’ new role as the party’s nominee has changed much of the campaign and galvanized black support, divisions over Gaza policy remain.

The New York Post reported that TikTok and other platforms are becoming an arena where Black Americans who enthusiastically support Harris are feuding with anti-Israel activists who argue that electing a Black woman as president will ultimately do nothing for the Palestinian people if she continues Biden’s pro-Israel policies.

“I’m so sick of Americans playing your identity politics,” TikToker Rosol.s said in a viral video with over 26,000 likes earlier this month. The non-American TikToker, who claimed to be Iraqi and Palestinian, later added, “It’s fucking crazy, a black woman as a fucking president is not going to save us, and no, I’m not fucking saying ‘vote for Trump.'”

Anti-Israel voters warn Harris will not get their vote without a ceasefire: “This is our leverage”

The activist went on to say that African Americans are just as involved in the oppression of their people as members of other races.

“Every damn race in this damn America has oppressed us,” she said. “Black people wear a uniform, get on a plane, come to our countries and kill us. They vote the same damn dark-skinned people into government who sign papers to kill us. I don’t want to hear that anymore.”

She went on to criticize black Americans for not taking the time to “think about how fucking toxic this identity politics is and how it’s killing people. You’re playing it up for your whole fucking agenda. Step by step, you’re all being fucking brainwashed.”

TikToker Tori Grier responded: “These are people who think they are entitled to the support of black people no matter what, that they can boss us around and tell us who the hell we can vote for if we support them, as if that means we should give a damn about ourselves.”

One social media user posted on X saying, “I’m having a hard time getting used to MAGAs declaring unconditional support for Israel while black Democrats post ‘Who cares about genocide?’ What’s going on?”

In response, a video was shared by another Black content creator, arguing, “This is why Black people don’t believe in allies, because as soon as we do something you don’t like, your anti-Black attitude comes out. For all of you to sit here and make demands on Kamala, on Black people, on anyone, is fucking moronic.”

Comedian Michael Rapaport says Harris lost his vote because of Israel: “Can’t support a party that is for this nonsense -“

One of the arguments that has emerged is that the claim that a possible Trump presidency would be even worse is that Harris is “to blame” for Biden-era policies.

“People, vote for whoever you want, but shut up about Donald Trump being even worse against Palestine. Kamala Harris is 100% more responsible for this genocide than Donald Trump,” pro-Palestinian activist @notyourlawyermd said on TikTok. “All you keep saying repeatedly and loudly is that genocide is not a deal breaker for you.”

The New York Post reported that following Harris’ nomination, British Muslim TikToker @pistachiochaii criticized liberals for “weaponizing anti-Blackness to defend the US empire just because they want a token ethnic minority president.” She stands by her criticism, but later clarified in a video that the term “token ethnicity” is not a code word for token black people.

While she continued to make harsh remarks about Harris, she said the criticism had led to severe reactions.

“She has made it very clear that she will not impose an arms embargo and she was also bought out by AIPAC for $5 million. Her position is very clear. I will not speak about this situation anymore because not only am I the victim of the most cruel abuse, but my safety is also threatened.”
