APCD: Repeat offender exposed himself in front of child

A 50-year-old man with several previous convictions is said to have exposed himself to a child again.

The alleged incident occurred yesterday (Sunday) afternoon in Crystal City.

According to police, a woman and a girl were leaving a store in the 400 block of South 23rd Street – the same block as a 7-Eleven store – “when they were approached by the male suspect, who allegedly exposed himself and made inappropriate statements.”

The victims ran away and an officer responding to the incident arrested them nearby. The case is pending in Arlington County Juvenile and Family Court, where few details about a case or its outcome are released publicly.

DISRUPTION ARREST, 2024-08110104, 400 block of 23rd Street S. On August 11 at approximately 12:46 p.m., police were called to a report of exposure. Upon arrival, it was determined that the adult female victim and juvenile female victim were exiting a store when they were approached by the male suspect, who then allegedly exposed himself and made inappropriate statements. The victims then ran from the scene and called police. A wanted signal was sent and an officer who responded located the suspect nearby and arrested him without incident. (The suspect, 50, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with indecent conduct with a child, indecent conduct (3+ offenses in 10 years), and public intoxication. He was held without bail.

In addition, today’s police report mentioned two incidents involving a firearm.

A taxi driver in Ballston was robbed Friday afternoon by a middle-aged passenger who brandished a gun and demanded cash, police said. The suspect fled and is still at large.

ROBBERY, 2024-08090107, 900 block of N. Stafford Street. On August 9 at approximately 2:53 p.m., police were called to a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a male suspect was a passenger in a taxi cab when he brandished a firearm and demanded cash. The driver stopped and the suspect stole the contents of the driver’s wallet, exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported. A wanted alert was sent out and officers responding to the call searched the area for the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

Then early Saturday morning, two Alexandria residents, both in their late teens, were arrested and charged with breaking into several parked cars near Rosslyn.

One of the suspects, an 18-year-old with a previous conviction, was armed with a loaded “ghost gun,” police said.

VEHICLE TAMPERING (major), 2024-08100021, 1500 block of Arlington Boulevard. On August 10 at approximately 2:58 a.m., police were called to a report of subjects breaking into parked cars in a parking lot. When police arrived, the suspects fled the scene on foot. A security perimeter was cordoned off and two suspects were found nearby and taken into custody. Items found on the suspects include an unidentified 9mm “ghost gun” loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, a window punching device, and a claw hammer. Investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly broke into three vehicles and attempted to steal one of them by tampering with the ignition. (Suspect 1), 19, of Alexandria, VA, was charged with attempted grand theft of a vehicle, possession of burglary tools, vehicle tampering, and conspiracy to commit theft. (Suspect 2), 18, of Alexandria, VA, was charged with attempted grand theft of a vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of burglary tools, tampering with a vehicle, and conspiracy to commit theft.
