ASAE suspends six nationwide bakery companies – Summary

The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) recently carried out a nationwide inspection operation called “Operation Panis”, targeting operators in the bakery and confectionery sector who manufacture their own products.

The aim of this measure was to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards, to license the activity and to verify the mandatory information on product labels.

The ASAE said in a statement that it had inspected a total of 74 economic operators as part of the operation, resulting in the initiation of 28 administrative violations. Among the main violations identified were: non-compliance with general and specific hygiene requirements, poor technical and functional conditions in the production facilities, the absence of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, which is a mandatory system to ensure food safety, and non-compliance in the labeling of pre-packaged products such as cakes.

As a result of these violations, the ASAE association ordered the suspension of the activities of six economic operators because they did not comply with the necessary hygiene requirements.

The ASAE confirms that, within the scope of its powers, it will “continue to carry out inspections” throughout the national territory, with the aim of protecting food safety and the public health of consumers, as well as ensuring fair and equitable competition between economic operators.
