Tsehay Hawkins, the youngest cast member of The Wiggles, recently revealed that she prides herself on challenging gender stereotypes with her costume choices.

The current Yellow Wiggle, 18, is the first female ensemble member to wear trousers instead of a skirt on stage.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, she said the opportunity to challenge stereotypes with her costume choice was “cool.”

“I think when you wear pants, girls and boys can relate to it equally. Even boys can wear skirts if they want – we definitely have boys who come to the shows in skirts, which is nice too,” she told the publication.

“But I think it’s kind of cool to see the little ones in flared trousers. It breaks the stereotype that little girls always have to wear dresses or skirts.”

Tsehay added that breaking stereotypes was not her main focus when choosing her clothes – she admitted that she is more of a “pants girl type”.

“I don’t think that really played a role when I decided to wear it, but when I did, I realized the impact it had,” she said.
