BAE Systems upgrades flight control computers of the F-15EX and F/A-18E/F

BAE Systems will upgrade the flight control computers (FCC) on the Boeing F-15EX Eagle II and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, increasing processing power to improve the aircraft’s performance, capabilities and readiness while incorporating new cybersecurity measures. Corin Beck, Senior Director of Military Aircraft Systems for Controls and Avionics Solutions at BAE Systems, said: “BAE Systems is a leading provider of highly integrated controls and this upgrade reflects our commitment to providing our customers with next-generation solutions.”

BAE Systems has over 40 years of experience developing and integrating flight control technology for military and commercial platforms and was the original manufacturer of the FCCs for both aircraft. These FCCs share common core electronics that support the quadruple redundant FBW flight control systems (FCS). The flight control upgrade will be performed at the company’s state-of-the-art design and manufacturing facility in Endicott, New York.

The FCC’s electronic hardware and software will be upgraded by BAE Systems to increase processing power, improve cyber and product security, address obsolescence issues and support future maintenance, while ensuring the safety, reliability, robustness and performance required to operate these advanced platforms. The Super Hornet FCC will also receive an additional processor to enable future fleet performance upgrades.

The upgraded flight control computers will leverage BAE Systems’ highly integrated flight control product roadmap, which builds on technology investments and is used in many recent flight control upgrades for military airborne platforms.
