Bangkok Post – Comics Art Festival is back in BKK

Calling all comic and art lovers. BKK Comics Art Festival #3 returns from October 1st to 13th at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre, bigger and better than ever. Whether you’ve always been a comic fan or you’re new to this art form, this festival has something for everyone.

The BKK Comics Art Festival is an annual celebration of sequential art and comic storytelling, designed to bring more attention and recognition to this vibrant medium. The festival’s mission is to spotlight local artists and emerging talents and provide them with a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience. The festival fosters a community of comic lovers, artists and industry professionals, making it a must-attend event for anyone interested in comics and graphic art.

Kicking off with a two-week exhibition, the festival presents a wide range of comic art by genre to showcase the creativity and diversity of the medium. Visitors can explore the art of comics in a variety of styles and narratives, enjoying a rich visual experience that highlights the depth and breadth of comic storytelling.

After the exhibition, the festival will kick into high gear with an action-packed two-day convention on October 12 and 13 on the 5th floor of the BACC. This convention is designed to engage attendees with a variety of activities such as artist talks, panel discussions, workshops and more. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet your favorite artists, discover new talent and learn about the latest trends in the comics industry.

Here is the provisional schedule for the opening day of the congress on October 12:

Conference room 501, 5th floor:

10.30–11am

Opening ceremony and presentations by participating artists, providing insights into their creative processes and inspirations.

11.15 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.

Interview panel: Mangaka Atsushi Kaneko

Join us for a conversation with Atsushi Kaneko, known for his works such as Bambi, Soil, Evol, and Deathco. Soil and Evol have been adapted into acclaimed television dramas, making Kaneko a significant figure in the manga world.

1pm-2pm

Workshop: “Make a Diary Comic Zine!” by Juliette Yu Ming Lizeray

This interactive workshop will guide participants through the process of creating a zine from start to finish. Led by Juliette Yu Ming Lizeray, a talented comic artist from Singapore, you will learn how to bring your personal stories to life through comics.

2.40 p.m.–3.30 p.m.

Artist interview: SA-ARD

A conversation with SA-ARD, an award-winning Thai comic artist. This session explores his artistic journey, challenges and the inspirations behind his upcoming projects.

4:00 p.m.–4:40 p.m.

Awards ceremony

Celebrate the talent of emerging artists by awarding prizes for outstanding comics created during the festival.

5-6pm

Panel discussion: State of the comic industry in Thailand

Join a panel discussion with comic artists, publishers and distributors to discuss current trends, challenges and the future of the comic industry in Thailand.
