Barefoot photo on Delta flight sparks Reddit anger over airplane etiquette

We’ve gotten celebrities to condemn it. We’ve gotten experts to warn against it. We’ve shared why we personally find it disgusting. And still! Thrillist’s campaign encouraging travelers to at least wear socks on airplanes is clearly not resonating with the public. In a photo shared on the r/Delta subreddit, a passenger on a flight to Reykjavik felt the need to not only walk onto the plane completely barefoot, but then prop his bare white toes on the top of the seat in front of him. They did so in full view of all the surrounding passengers, celestial beings, and now the internet.

I commend the photo poster because I wouldn’t have had the presence of mind to take a photo. I would have started calling out to the flight attendant like a kindergarten snitch while lecturing that person on the virtues of decency and good conscience. I probably would have started crying too. It’s not that I’m afraid of feet, but I have a strong sense of the social contract and what we owe each other. And sending your naked dogs into the air like that violates pretty much every code of conduct.

That’s not what happened, anyway. The photo was taken and posted, and everyone on Reddit had a much more relaxed suggestion for what the passenger terrorized by a stranger’s little sausages should do: Tickle those toes. “Tickle them. I don’t make the rules,” one person commented. “I agree. Tickle them hard,” another person agreed.

So tell us. Would you tickle these feet?
