Bear Down, Mr. & Mrs. Mrázek, the importance of power play and other Blackhawks bullets

Guys, this is a great Saturday for all sports fans in general, but especially Chicago sports fans. The Olympics have gold medal games (women’s soccer, men’s basketball), which is nice. But the Caleb Williams era unofficially begins at noon with the Bears’ preseason game in Buffalo. And later in the evening, the Cubs take on the White Sox. I wish we had some overlapping Blackhawks hockey games of some sort to really make that happen, but we’ll get there.

There are only 32 days left until the Blackhawks’ rookie camp opens, before training camp begins a week later. Blackhawks hockey is coming. Soon.

  • Hey Petr Mrázek got married! Congratulations!
  • Earlier this week, I was thinking (or writing) out loud about some questions I have about the Blackhawks power play as we approach training camp. This is a really good post from Travis Yost about the connection between a strong power play and making the playoffs. Obviously, the Oilers had a decent power play last year. But he did the dirty work to make it clear that special teams success is imperative if you want to play in the postseason.
  • How about a glove check at Artjom Levshunov?
  • And now a reminder of how electric Frank NazarHe scored the first goal at the United Center.
  • And how about a reminder that the Blackhawks Connor Bedard and that’s great. We hope to hear something similar from Caleb Williams in February (but after his team has a much higher win percentage this season).
  • This is actually pretty cool.
  • And finally: Bear all the way down. To all of you celebrating, I wish Caleb Williams’ first NFL appearance on Saturday!
