Pop star Bebe Rexha claims she was threatened and prevented from flying because she spoke to a security guard in Albanian.
Rexha, who has North Macedonian and Albanian roots, shared a tearful video on Instagram on August 17. She tagged Lufthansa Airlines and explained what she said happened.
“I was threatened because I thought the security guard was Albanian. I spoke to him in Albanian and asked where I could get my ticket and now he is banning me from flying,” she wrote under the video.
In another post, Rexha called the incident a “hate crime.”
“I believe this is a hate crime because I am Albanian,” she explained. TMZ reported that an airline representative said they were in contact with Rexha.
The singer said the agent did not tell her his name and “continued to psychologically abuse me to make me feel like he was more powerful.” She later said the agent worked for a company hired by Lufthansa and accused the airline’s staff of not intervening.
It is unclear whether Rexha made her flight.
This is not Rexha’s first public incident. In June 2023, she posted photos of her face after a fan threw a phone at her during a New York concert.
Rexha was hospitalized after the accident. Later photos showed that she suffered a black eye and a bandaged eyebrow as a result of the incident.
